IMC to set up four more pollution monitoring stations across Indore

These stations will come up at Mhow Naka, Regional Park, Fine Arts College and Vijay Nagar.

With an aim to bring down air pollution levels below the prescribed standards, Indore Municipal Corporation has planned to set up four new pollution monitoring stations across the city. Reportedly, these stations will come up at Mhow Naka, Regional Park, Fine Arts College and Vijay Nagar.

The move is being taken under Madhya Pradesh's ‘Non-Attainment City’ that targets bringing down the pollutants in the air, thereby ensuring better air quality.

Precise data gathering

Pollution monitoring stations will act as a source of precise air quality data, offering civic bodies a chance to take effective measures. Additionally, time-bound implementation of environmental conservation schemes will also be kicked into motion.

As of now, tenders have been raised for the installation of four new pollution monitoring stations. Regional Park and Fine Arts College already have a pollution monitoring station, which was set up by the Pollution Control Board.

However, these stations are outdated, and offer very few insights into real-time ambient air quality. As per the new standards, at least five pollution monitoring stations in a city are a must and Indore only had three such stations.

IMC's Micro-level action plan

As part of IMC's micro-level action plan, the civic body, in the past, has taken various measures targeting sustainable development. These measures include replacement of ICE public transport buses with CNG buses, encouraging use of EVs, increasing the city’s green cover and more.
