Indore becomes the first city in MP to issue over 10 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards

The city ranks 6th in the country for issuing a huge number of Ayushman Bharat cards

Indore has achieved a record of issuing the maximum number of Ayushman cards to eligible beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh. So far, over 10 lakh members from 3.41 lakh families have been issued this card in Indore. A total of 15% of eligible families are still in line to get the benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Using these cards, beneficiaries can seek free medical treatment in public as well as private medical institutes.

More than 80% of families in the country do not have health insurance. It is common that these families have to bear medical expenses by borrowing money, eventually resulting in worsening their financial conditions. Last month, the state government organised various camps across Madhya Pradesh where eligible families were issued these cards. This world’s largest health insurance scheme aims at providing a health insurance cover of ₹5 lacs to each Indian family who is eligible. However, the scheme only provides coverage against tertiary and secondary care hospitalization.

Under the flagship scheme, registered families can avail of health insurance for close to 1,393 medical procedures including the treatment cost, room charges, doctor’s fees, operation theatre, ICU, diagnostic services, surgeon charges, etc. As per the scheme, a patient can get a maximum of three days of pre-hospitalization cover and 15 days of post-hospitalisation cover.

Who is eligible for the scheme?

The scheme aims to provide health benefits to nearly 10 crore families or 50 crore individuals. However, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has certain pre-conditions through which it narrows down the eligible population. It covers a number of categories in both rural and urban India. Usually, beneficiaries include daily wage workers, maids, watchmen, ragpickers, beggars, labourers, etc.

There is no specific way to get yourself registered for the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. The applies to all beneficiaries that are identified by the (Socio-Economic Caste Census) SECC 2011. However, one can check its eligibility by visiting the PMJAY portal or can directly approach any Empanelled Health Care Provider (EHCP) or dial the Ayushman Bharat Yojna call centre number: 14555 or 1800111565.
