Indore kicks off 'No Thu Thu' anti-spitting campaign to maintain stain-free streets

The campaign was initiated this Monday, during which several NGOs, public representatives and IMC Mayor cleaned the spit stained dividers.

Living in India, it is common to have encounters with special individuals boasting orangish lips and mouths stuffed with sachet-sized Gutkhas or Paan Masalas. These folks form a very illustrious creed of our nation, and can often be seen spitting the chewed-up content, conveniently on the streets after they are done relishing their delights.

With a motive to spread awareness against the spitting of gutkha, paan masalas, paan etc. and to curb spitting in public, Indore has now flagged of an extensive 'No thu thu' anti-spitting campaign.

IMC flags off the campaign by cleaning spit stains from streets & dividers

The city of Indore, which has been awarded as 'the cleanest city of India' six times in a row is no stranger to public spitting. Orange spit stains can be found in several spots of the city and alongside the streets. To counter this, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has now enforced strict rules and regulations under the anti-spitting campaign.

Notably, IMC has started its 'No thu thu' campaign this Monday i.e. December 5. Furthermore, several NGOs, public representatives and IMC Mayor cleaned the spit-stained dividers near the Mhow Naka intersection, during the commencement of the campaign.

Fines will be imposed against flouters

Reportedly, IMC officials have stated that the campaign will constitute of two phases, during which the civic authorities will enforce several measures to curb public spitting practices in the city.

In the first phase, IMC will advise people against spitting gutkha and paan etc. in public, while flouters will be given verbal warnings regarding the same. During the second phase, IMC will impose fines against the miscreants who will be caught spitting publicly.

The anti-spitting campaign is yet another revolutionary move of the Indore civic authority which is expected to further bolster the cleanliness initiative of the city.
