Indore Metro to launch on May 20, with 50 daily trips & fare discounts!
Indore is gearing up to join the list of Indian cities with metro services, as the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) prepares for the launch of the Priority Corridor on the Yellow Line. The Prime Minister of India is expected to virtually inaugurate the metro on May 20, although official confirmation from the PMO is still awaited.
Priority Corridor Details
The initial operational phase covers a 5.9-kilometre stretch between Gandhi Nagar Station and Station No. 3 on the Super Priority Corridor, with stops at five stations.
Trains will run daily from 8 am to 8 pm, completing 50 trips per day (25 in each direction), with a train scheduled every 30 minutes. The frequency may be adjusted based on passenger demand.
Initially, only three-coach trains will be deployed, each accommodating up to 300 passengers, said reports. The system is built to support six-coach trains, allowing for future expansion. Day and night test runs are ongoing to ensure readiness before the official launch.
Fare structure announced
Metro fares will be divided into five zones, eventually covering 28 stations on the Yellow Line. The introductory fare on the 5-station Priority Corridor will range from ₹20 to ₹30. Once fully operational, the fare structure across the entire Yellow Line will range from ₹20 to ₹80, depending on the distance travelled.
