AICTSL to introduce more CNG & e-vehicles to better the Indore public transport system

With the Union Budget announced for the financial year 2022-23, Indore is all set to become greener, cleaner and smarter. As per reports, the city administration has decided to install 76 e-charging systems and deploy more CNG buses to progress the vision. Along with that, the AICTSL has also made provisions to roll out about 1000 bicycles in Indore and help enhance the public transport system.

In a recent board review of the Atal Indore City Transport Services Limited (AICTSL), officials have initiated targeted efforts for smart mobility in the city. In this direction, the administration is set to procure 80 electric vehicles to beef up Indore's electric public transport fleet and drive pollution-free commute services. About 50 of these will be provided to the Sarvate Bus Stand.

The electric buses will be used to run for the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and will be soon linked through the upcoming 76 e-charging stations across the city. As per reports, only 37 of these systems will be operational in the first phase of the project.

Following the AICTSL meeting, Indore Collector, Manish Singh tweeted that a total of 380 CNG have been purchased, out of which 55 will run in the first phase. These will be activated on 6 routes, including MR 10 to Navlakha. Four buses each will also run the on routes to Mhow, Pithampur and Ghata Billod, for the convenience of passengers.

In addition to that, a total of 1000 bicycles will be made available on 100 stations in Indore. All cycles will be equipped with GPRS locks and carrier baskets. The step is expected to create environmental awareness and promote health benefits among the city people. The bicycles can be rented by anyone at subsidized and affordable rates for 24 hours.

The report shared by the Distirct Collector read that cashless transactions will be introduced on two routes, Route no. 15 (Sangam Nagar to Khajrana) and Route no. 5 (East Ring Road). Passengers will be able to tap in and tap out for tickets, with the help of a smart card. They will be given a 20% discount on using this mode of payment.

This project of putting a clean and smart public transport system in place in Indore. The use of e-vehicles will also help to keep public commute fares reasonable for all by averting the usage of high-priced fuels.
