Madhya Pradesh’s Indore has created history after being crowned as the Cleanest City in India for the fifth time by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav, today. Notably, the state’s capital Bhopal has also been honoured as the seventh cleanliest city in the event, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. The employees of Indore Municipal Corporations were seen dancing as they celebrated the historic win by the city for the fifth time in a row. Apart from this, Indore was also declared as an SBM Water+ certified city in the 6th edition of Swachh Survekshan. Moreover, this financial capital of MP is one of the six cities of the country that belongs to a Five-Star garbage-free city category.

Meanwhile, as Gujarat’s Surat managed to retain the second position in the world’s largest cleanliness survey, Andhra Pradesh’s Vijaywada displaced Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai to grab the third spot this year in the Swachh Survekshan, 2021. In other categories, Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi was awarded as the cleanest Ganga town, while Ahmedabad cantonment was awarded as the Cleanest Cantonment of the country. In the category for cities with less than one lakh population, Maharashtra’s Vita, Lonavla and Saswad bagged the top three positions across India, respectively.
Apart from Indore, Chattisgarh has also managed to retain its position as the Cleanest State in India in this annual survey. The state was awarded this honour for the third consecutive time, this year. Not just this, Chhattisgarh has also managed to receive 67 awards in the sixth edition of the Swachh Survekshan.
