Aiming for complete immunisation of the target population in Indore, the Health Department has urged the state government to impose strict restraints on those overdue for the second COVID-19 jab. After a downward trajectory of COVID cases in the city, citizens have started ignoring the grave nature of the situation. Reportedly, over 7 lakh people are yet to take their second dose and the laid-back attitude of the public is raising concerns among health officials.

No entry into temples, cinema halls & other public places

A gap of 84 days is mandatory between the two doses in case of Covishield and 28 days in Covaxin. Any person who does not take up the second dose after 14 days (Covishield) or 7 days (Covaxin)of the stipulated gap is said to be overdue. Now, a large chunk of singly inoculated individuals in Indore fall in this category. In view of this, the officials are planning to implement strict constraints on such people, to create awareness about the importance and urgency of taking the final dose.

According to District Immunisation Officer, the restrictions will include no entry into public places like temples and cinema halls, among others. Apart from this, the benefits of welfare schemes run by the government will also be stopped. This move is expected to drive people to take up vaccination on priority basis thereby curbing the spread of this disease. As per health officials, it is expected that the formal orders will be released soon.

Only 55% beneficiaries have taken the second dose in the city!
