A 14-feet high bronze statue of Late Madhavrao Scindia adorned Indore’s Bengali Colony Square until 6 June, after which it was shifted to a new location by the city’s Municipal Corporation. The statue had to be removed from this location, where it was inaugurated in 2005, as its height was hindering the construction process of a flyover that will cross this intersection. Special measures were taken to safely remove this 1.5-tonne statue, before it could be placed at its new location, near Goyal Nagar.
Special expert from Gwalior supervised the process
This statue of Madhavrao Scindia has now been placed in front of the Jain Mandir, situated near Goyal Nagar in Indore. In order to safely remove, transport and install it at the new location, expert Prabhat Rai was called in from Gwalior. The ceremonies were duly performed at the new location by dignitaries, before the statue was respectfully relocated.
Until now, the statue was placed on a storey in the centre of the Bengali Colony chauraha and was causing issues in the development of a flyover that is intended to pass this four-way. Now that the state has been relocated, the construction work of the 6-lane flyover can begin at a height lesser than 40 metres.
Flyover to be named after Madhavrao Scindia
For almost a year, construction of this bridge was halted, however, it is now expected to be completed within the coming four-five months. Further, it has been reported that this flyover will be named after late Madhavrao Scindia and a proposal for the same has been sent to the government for approval.
This dedication will be a reflection of the love this late dignitary had for the city of Indore. The efforts of Madhavrao Scindia as a minister in the central government led to increased rail connectivity of Indore, apart from the establishment of premier educational institutions, such as IIT and IIM.
