With an objective to increase revenues and profits, the West Central Railway will start rail coach restaurants at seven major railway stations in Madhya Pradesh. As per reports, the body has chosen these centres from the Bhopal and Jabalpur railway divisions in the state. As a part of the upcoming project, old train coaches will be revamped and beautified, to be used as hosting complexes for restaurants.

As per reports, the organisation has materialised agreements for the planned interventions, under the non-fare revenue policy. It has been reported that the rail coach will continue to be the property of Indian Railways and the settlements will be applicable for a term of five years. Reportedly, the West Central Railways informed that the centres will be established on a campus of around 200 square feet and the areas for this have been demarcated at each station.
Railway expects an additional earning of more than ₹4 crores

Notably, reports state that the railway body eyes an additional earning of more than ₹4 crores with this project. As per reports, the plans include Jabalpur, Madan Mahal, Katni Murwara, Satna and Rewa railway stations under the Jabalpur Division. Besides, Bhopal and Itarsi facilities from the Bhopal Division have also been added. Reportedly, the restaurants will be set at the circulating centres of these stations.
In 2020, the Indian Railways had started its first-ever ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ at the circulating areas of Asansol station. Opened for both railway commuters and the general public, this new facility was expected to usher an additional revenue of ₹50 lakhs, reportedly.
