Strict 'Janta Curfew' imposed in Indore & other MP districts till May 15 amid rampant COVID rise

All services, except those marked as essential will be completely closed in Indore, Bhopal & other districts of Madhya Pradesh!

The rising thread of COVID-19 has propelled the extension of the 'Janta curfew' in Indore, Bhopal and other districts of Madhya Pradesh until May 15. The Chief Minister on Thursday, announced that all activities and services, except for essential provisions, will be strictly curtailed during this period to break the chain of infection. At present, the state is nursing a high positivity rate, marked at 18%, that spells danger amid the second swell of infection.

In a bid to reinstate pre-COVID normalcy in Madhya Pradesh, the Chief Minister has ordained a complete shutdown of all public activities across the state until May 15. He has further urged all people to adhere to the norms strictly, to help contain the surging horrors of the COVID-19 infection. Earlier on April 29, the state government had imposed a Janata Curfew till May 7 to control the transmission of coronavirus through direct contact.

In a statement to the press, the Chief Minister also mentioned that while things cannot be kept closed for long, they cannot remain open as well, amid a high case positivity ratio. Streamlined with this, he has directed public representatives to motivate people to not arrange weddings and similar super-spreader events in May.

The Chief Minister also extended gratitude to all government, civic and health officials along with the general public for coordinating with the administration. He then tasked the district officials to review measures of crowd prevention and deter mass gatherings to curb the viral load.

COVID spike in Madhya Pradesh

In the last 24 hours, about 12,421 fresh cases of COVID-19 cases were reported in Madhya Pradesh. Of this tally, the highest surge was logged in Indore with 1,792 new detections. The growth rate of the virus has been pegged at 2.1% with an 18% high positivity ratio, adding to the pandemic troubles here. Recoveries stand at 5,42,632 in MP whereas Indore has clocked in the highest recuperative rate, with 1,08,493 discharges. The fatality toll is looming at 1,184 in Indore and at 6,160, at the state level.
