Indore is widely known as the land of the Holkars. Earlier, generals to Peshwa Baji Rao I, the Holkars made Indore their capital in the 1720s. They served as an independent member of the Maratha Empire until the early 1800s. Their influence is still seen in the city in the form of numerous establishments named after them. From localities to the airport, you can find a Holkar name in Indore everywhere.
The Marathas had a similarly lasting influence on Mumbai despite being under Portuguese and British rule for the most part of history. The British always considered the Maratha Empire to be a major threat in the region.

Currently, many MNCs and businesses have chosen Indore and Mumbai to be the hotspots for their businesses. It makes the work culture and population density of youth working in these cities somewhat similar.
These homogenous economic activities are not limited to the current day’s work culture. They go back a little in time. Mumbai was under the control of trade unions during the ‘70s and ‘80s. Businessmen felt largely threatened by the new rules and impositions. They felt it to be the safest choice to move their trade to different locations. In light of these events, Indore turned out to be the best choice to relocate. Businesses proliferated and Indore continued to be a hub for them.
Citizens embody the same spirit

There is no doubt in the minds of outsiders looking in that the people in both the cities are almost identical. The traffic is just as crazy in Indore as it is in Mumbai. Street food is not just big but has overlapping options. From frugal shopping to splurging on high-end brands, both Indore and Mumbai cater to everybody. On top of that, the people hold the same love and consciousness for the betterment of their respective cities. This can be seen in the many projects and schemes the cities have come up with to keep their surroundings clean.
The two cities may not be the exact same experience but Indore has indeed adopted and ingrained all the great aspects of Mumbai in its very essence.
