Knocksense Shorts | Indore Nominated for Wetland City Accreditation Under Ramsar Convention

In addition to Indore, Bhopal and Udaipur also have been named for the Wetland City Accreditation

The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has nominated Indore, Bhopal, and Udaipur as India's first entries for Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The submissions, made in collaboration with State Wetlands Authorities and Municipal Corporations, highlight the significant benefits these wetlands offer, including flood regulation, livelihood opportunities, and cultural values.

The nominated wetlands, such as Sirpur Wetland and Yashwant Sagar in Indore, Bhoj Wetland in Bhopal, and various lakes in and around Udaipur, play vital roles in sustaining these cities. The WCA scheme aims to encourage the conservation and sustainable use of urban wetlands, providing international recognition for cities prioritising these invaluable ecosystems.
