The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for heavy rainfall in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday. Western Madhya Pradesh will experience intense rainfall on September 17, while other parts of the state will see moderate rain. This weather pattern is a result of a Low Pressure Area shifting over Southwest Rajasthan.
Additionally, the IMD has cautioned about heavy to very heavy rainfall in West Madhya Pradesh and North Konkan from September 17-18, potentially leading to light to moderate flash floods.
Significantly, three districts in southwest Madhya Pradesh reported their highest 24-hour rainfall on record. Katthiwada (Alirajpur) recorded 341 mm, Meghnagar (Jhabua) received 316 mm, and Dhar city experienced 301.3 mm of rainfall, marking the highest levels in the state since 1958, according to IMD.
MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is co-ordinating Army and Air Force aid for floods in Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Alirajpur, and Indore. SDERF and National Disaster Response Force are active, ensuring residents’ safety is top priority.
