Five beds were brought from Indore's MY Hospital with an aim to double the BMT capacity at Super Speciality Hospital.

Indore's Super Speciality Hospital of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College will now have 10 beds, instead of the initial five, in the bone marrow transplant unit. With the capacity doubling, the hospital will be able to treat more patients who are in need of a transplant.

"With the increase in the number of beds, we could perform more BMT transplants to give a new lease of life to the people fighting with the deadly diseases," said Dean Dr Sanjay Dixit.

The beds were brought here from MY Hospital, Indore, with an aim to double the capacity of the BMT unit, the decision which was taken by the admin last year.

To date, MGM has carried out above 60 bone marrow transplants. Most of these patients were children, sans six adults. The transplant, which replaces bone marrow with healthy cells, is performed to treat disorders like leukemias, lymphomas, aplastic anemia, immune deficiency disorders, etc.
