Ahead of the South Africa 2023 tour, Hockey India has announced its 22-member Indian Women’s Hockey team. Matches on this tour will commence from January 16 in Cape Town, where the Indian Hockey team will be seen playing four matches against South Africa, and three matches against the Netherlands. The tour will go till January 28.
The South Africa tour 2023 is a brilliant opportunity for the Indian Hockey team to refine their game by playing against the current world best, Netherlands.
Meet the star players of the Indian Hockey team
The team includes experienced goalkeepers – Bichu Devi Kharibam and Savita (Captain) and forward campaigners like Navneet Kaur (Vice-Captain), Vandana Katariya, Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari, Beauty Dungdung, Reena Khokhar, and Sharmila Devi. Along with this, class midfielders P. Sushila Chanu, Nisha, Salima Tete, Monika, Neha, Sonika and Baljeet Kaurare are part of this team. And that not all, the skilful set of defenders include Nikki Pradhan, Ishika Chaudhary, Udita, and Gurjit Kaur.
Former captain and veteran forward, Rani Rampal will seen making a come back after FIH Women’s Hockey Pro League 2021/22 match against Belgium and midfielder Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, who led the Indian Women’s Junior Team at the Uniphar U23 5 Nations Tournament 2022 in May, will be seen playing in Cape Town.
The South Africa Tour is a brilliant opportunity for us to build on our performance of the Nations Cup. Playing both South Africa as well as Netherlands on this tour provides us with everything we need to learn about ourselves come the Asian Games.
