MPPTLC constructs state’s 1st maintenance-free, Gas Insulated Substation in Indore

The 50 MVA substation is build at an estimated cost of ₹36.5 crore in Mahalaxmi Nagar, Indore.

Madhya Pradesh has welcomed its first Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Indore. The project has been commissioned by Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd. (MPPTCL). The 50 MVA substation at Mahalaxmi Nagar, is built at an estimated cost of ₹36.5 crore. The GIS will strengthen Indore‘s electric transmission system with an ultra high-pressure alternative.

Maintenance-free Gas Insulated Substation (GIS)

In view of the increasing demand for electricity in MP’s commercial capital, MPPTCL felt the need to construct a conventional substation in the city. However, due to insufficient availability of land, MPPTCL decided to replace it with a GIS instead.

When compared to a conventional air-insulated substation, a GIS offers a more budget friendly and maintenance-free option. A GIS’s active parts are protected from the deterioration from atmospheric exposure. As a result, it is more reliable and requires less maintenance. They are also smaller and need less land for establishment.

East Indore will benefit from the new substation

Areas falling in East-Indore, including colonies like Mahalaxmi Nagar, along with many commercial establishments, will be supplied with proper voltage quality power. Reportedly, metro rail project currently under construction in the city will now get adequate power supply.
