Any resident of Jaipur will tell you that the public transport in the city is not the best it could be- but it’s getting there. How bad the public transport is is rather subjective depending on who you ask but for sure it could do with a few major overhauls. The authorities seemed to have recognized this and are looking to induct 100 new electric buses that are not just great for commuters, but also for the environment.

As per the decision to make use of 100 new electric buses, the plan is to have them up and running in a matter of a few months. The Rajasthan government has placed an order for electric buses in all major cities of the state and 100 of them are expected to go to Jaipur. For all the eco-friendly enthusiasts out there, this should come as great news.
Over the past few months, there have been talks of making use of a total of 600 new buses as the older ones are not fit for usage on main city roads any longer. They are not durable and because of that, they tend to break down, causing huge inconveniences to pretty much anyone on the road.
The major point to take away from here is that the city is increasingly aiming to get rid of diesel and CNG based buses- which are the most widely used ones in the city. Earlier, a fleet of almost 50 electric buses had hit the road and they seem to have performed well. The response from Jaipurites was great and now, these 100 new electric buses will be another step towards completely eliminating the need for existing buses that are not just taxing on the environment, but are also dangerous for commuters.
The buses themselves are state of the art, low floor air conditioned buses. The buses will come with LED screens, CCTV cameras, panic buttons and a few added conveniences. Certainly, these buses will herald a new era of public transportation in Jaipur.
