Extending the reach of COVID inoculation drives, the Rajasthan Health Minister declared on Friday that the vaccination for citizens between 35 to 45 years of age will start in Jaipur and 10 other districts of the state, today onwards. While the central government had decided to open immunisation for all individuals above 18 from May 1, Rajasthan will currently witness vaccination of people in the stated age group, in areas with the highest infection rates.
3 lakh COVID vaccine jabs to be provided from Serum Institute of India
As per sources, Rajasthan would receive 3 lakh COVID vaccine doses from the Serum Institute of India. With this batch of Covidshield jabs, the authorities in the state aim to inoculate citizens aged between 35 and 45 in 11 districts, where the maximum count of new COVID cases is being recorded daily. As of now, the vaccination drives are all set to commence in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Alwar, Dholpur, Bhilwara, Kota, Sikar, and Pali.
The Health Minister affirmed that the immunisation program shall be initiated in other districts once the stock of vaccine doses is received. It is expected that SII would be able to deliver the jabs in a few days from now.
Shortage of vaccine doses deters extensive inoculation drives
The Health Minister remarked that a total of 7 crore vaccine jabs will be needed to inoculate all individuals above 18 in the state. For this purpose, the state administration is developing a framework to immunize 7 lakh people daily, with an objective to cover the enormous count of 3.25 crore individuals lying in the age group 18-45. Presently, the state doesn’t have enough stocks of immunity booster jabs to start this large-scale drive so that program is being postponed for now.
