Residents of Jaipur are in for some safety and traffic rule lessons because the traffic police is not letting anyone away with flouting rules. Those in Jaipur can now be fined for up to ₹1,000 for not wearing a helmet on a motorbike. This is just one of the changes that have come about. Though the situation of traffic in Jaipur is better than that in Lucknow, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and other cities, it could do with an overhaul. The new traffic fines will make you fear the traffic police and follow some rules, for once in your life.

Prior to the change, one would have to pay up to ₹100 for not having a helmet on a motorbike, but now, the fares have been increased ten folds. Surely, this should dissuade you from getting out of the house without a helmet.
Additionally, other fines include penalties for driving without a seatbelt, repeated offences, unnecessary honking, jumping traffic lights and driving or riding without a license. Apart from that, the new rules also dictate that if found flouting traffic rules, your driving license could also be revoked for a period of time.

Though the traffic condition in Jaipur isn’t all that bad, it could do with a much needed makeover. The new fines and penalties will certainly keep Jaipurites in check. You can expect to see these penalties go live from 13th of February.
