An extension of the existing Phase 1A route of Jaipur metro could be just what was needed to make the metro more appealing
Jaipur Metro has had us pink-city residents quite giddy and full of hope. Yet, of late, it has been a bit hard to find some substantial information about Jaipur Metro's upcoming Phase 1B. However, after a long wait, we have some new information that takes us a step closer to finally being able to make use of Phase 1B metro corridor.
As it turns out, the JMRC is all set to begin the internal trials of the corridor this month. Phase 1B of Jaipur metro connects Chandpole to Badi Chaupar in the walled city via a 2.4 kilometer underground route.
The JMRC recently revealed this information and also mentioning the fact that the trials are expected to start in the next 10 days. As for the final, commercial launch of the metro route, it is expected to be open to the public by March of next year. Since these trials are internal ones, it is highly likely that a few things will be revamped and tweaked before the metro is finally open for the public.
At any rate, this internal trial that is going to commence by mid-November takes us a step closer to the the convenience of a whole new metro corridor.
During the process of making a metro route operational, internal trials are a must. The trials help engineers and planners in understanding the physicalities of the metro as a whole. Also, it is a great way for them to survey the areas that the metros pass through and provide even more benefits to travellers.
The main reason, however, remains the fact that the planners need to ensure that the metro tracks do not interfere with existing architecture- commercial, residential or otherwise.
As of now, there is just one metro route that is functional in Jaipur. This is Jaipur metro's phase 1A corridor, which is often known as the Pink Line Metro. Comprising of a total of 9 metro stations along an almost 10 kilometre route, it is also one of the shortest metros in India.
However, that is not to say that it does not have the same conveniences of a regular metro. With an average of about 20,000 passengers on a daily basis, the metro is heralding a change in the way that people commute in Jaipur. Though this figure is far less than the projected footfall of a lakh passengers in a day, the Phase 1B should bring about a change.
As for the route, Phase 1A connects two ends of the city- Chandpole and Mansarovar. The 10 kilometre stretch has seen a slight improvement in traffic as well. Phase 1B of the metro is an extension from Chandpole all the way to Badi Chaupar, which is a length of 2.4 kilometres.
Jaipur's entire cityscape is changing at a fast pace and in these times, keeping up with all that is happening in the city is a must. The public transport is getting a complete makeover as a result of the increasing appeal of Jaipur metro. The Phase 1B project is just what Jaipur needed to bring it at par with cities that have some of the best metro systems out there.
