Jaipur’s rising number of coronavirus cases in September have posed a serious sense of alarm among the state administrative and medical officials alike. The state capital has been reporting high coronavirus infection tallies every day and has recorded around 8,210 new cases since the beginning of the month of September. According to official reports, this upward trend extends to the numbers of active cases in the city as well, that have risen by 3,012 in just 24 days!
Surge in infection spread
New tallies of daily infections in Jaipur suggest that the coronavirus pandemic is soon to hit its peak in the Pink City. The month of September itself has brought a rapid rate of transmission and growth of the virus, which is growing at 1.6% in Rajasthan, taking the total caseload of the city over 19,001. Around 43% of this total, accounting to about 8210 patients were identified this month only.
Around 35,135 samples have been tested so far and with the current caseload, the case positivity ratio culminates at an alarming high of 23.4% in the city. This rockets above the optimised standards of 3% to 5% as prescribed by the WHO, significantly higher than the national ratio that stands at 7.5%.
These rising statistics of the COVID infection in the city rang a warning bell among the medical officials, experts and the administrative control of the city. The medical staff has been working on its toes and around 398 recoveries- the city’s highest record of recoveries were clocked on September 24. Jaipur has witnessed around 11,808 COVID recoveries since the virus outbreak in April. The state government has also established a helpline number 181 and a COVID war room to trace, track, control the transmission of the infectious virus. These war rooms are manned by four state deployed RAS rank officials and four health department doctor, for the service of the city people round the clock!
