In wake of the swelling COVID-19 rise in Rajasthan, the state government has revised and extended the closure of all schools until January 17. Notably, the shutdown will be observed only for classes 1-8 coming under the municipal jurisdiction of Jaipur and Jodhpur. Online education will continue in these areas.

Earlier all schools coming under the municipal areas of Jaipur and Jodhpur were locked down till January 9 in view of the COVID surge. However, the order was altered during a COVID review meeting held late on Wednesday night. This discussion here was chaired by CM Ashok Gehlot to further raise security against the emergent pandemic wave.
As per reports, all District Collectors in Rajasthan now have the authority to take a decision regarding the operators of educational institutes within their areas, after consultation with the Additional Chief Secretary of Education. The guidelines also call for making masks and social distancing in educational institutions and offices necessary. Pregnant women and the elderly can work from home.
In the scenario of a COVID positive case at any office or school, the institute or centre must shut down for 72 hours if a COVID-19 infection has been reported, the order said. For additional precautions, a night curfew has been imposed across the state, restricting public movement from 11 PM to 5 AM, every day.

The fresh guidelines have been circulated in view of the rapidly scaling COVID graph in Rajasthan. Around 1,883 fresh cases were reported in the state on Wednesday. Of this, a lion’s share of 1,138 infections was reported from the state capital Jaipur. The virus also claimed two lives, one each in Jaipur and Jodhpur, in the last 24 hours.
