It’s a red alert for eve-teasers in Jaipur as an all-women super cop group called Nirbhaya Squad will be nabbing harassers and troublemakers in the city. Riding motorbikes, the female police officials conduct patrols throughout the city and they will now also monitor activities in the public transport vehicles. Dressed in civil attire, some officers will be deployed across buses and other vehicles to catch eve-teasers and miscreants while they are involved in the wrong acts.
Troublemakers to be caught red-handed in buses & other vehicles
Tagged “So Rahe ho to Jag Jaiye, Mahilaon ke Adhikaron Ke Baare Mein Jaan Jaiye (If you are sleeping then wake up, learn about the rights of women)”, the scheme would be operational from July 20-31. While the Nirbhaya squad maintained watchful surveillance around schools, colleges and malls, it will now look after the safety of women in public transport facilities too.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and Nodal Officer Nirbhaya Squad Sunita Meena said that this maiden campaign will ensure the safety and security of women across buses, metro, rail, tempo, auto-rickshaw, etc.
Notably, some women officers in police uniforms and equipped with body-worn cameras will also be present in the buses. They will spread awareness about the helpline number which has been rolled out for the benefit of the females. Apart from this, the policewomen posing as passengers will have wireless sets and they will catch the eve-teasers red-handed.

Additional Police Commissioner Rahul Prakash green signaled the initiative on Tuesday. The ADCP said, “This time, we have planned to increase the vigil on public transport as women and girls who ride the public transport have been facing the curse of eve-teasing but they never speak out and rather stop coming out of their houses. We want these women to be courageous,”
In a bid to assure the safety of the female commuters, the drivers and operators of the vehicles have been given an oath in this regard. Further, the Nirbhaya Squad will keep a comprehensive record of all the vehicles that run in their region, including details of the drivers and the conductors. Further, it has been stated that these logs will be updated on a monthly basis.

Incepted in 2019, Nirbhaya Squad comprises female officials who have been trained in martial arts. Primarily, this group was introduced to keep a check around schools, colleges, malls or at bus stops. During the pandemic propelled lockdown, officials from the Nirbhaya Squad took out marches encouraging people to maintain social distancing and avoid outdoor visits.
