The state of Rajasthan has issued norms to name the new roads in Jaipur. The guidelines also include renaming of some old streets and roundabouts. This will help the locals and tourists navigate easily in the city. As per the plan of action, the width of the roads will also be defined to prevent illegal encroachment on major roads.
Systematic nomenclature to boost harmonious development in Jaipur
The fast-growing landscape of Jaipur has several roads in newer colonies that are yet to be named. This often leads to confusion, rooted in unfamiliarity and vagueness, among locals as well as visitors to find their way through. As such, a nomenclature system will help the general public to map through the city. These new names will also be geo-tagged to assist people to find the correct location easily, stated officials.
Having a proper guideline format to name roads will avoid controversies that usually follow the naming of public roads or streets, said the official. The fixed criteria will promote civic development in harmony. As per the plan of action, roads and streets in Jaipur will be named after prominent personalities, freedom fighters and martyrs. Suggestions and objections regarding the same will have to be discussed with the local public representative prior to naming, read reports.
Besides this, the state also has plans to clearly define the width of the road. In the absence of proper earmarked roads, illegal encroachment becomes a frequent sight. Additionally, local bodies commonly face hurdles in approving building layout plans, identify intrusion over public space and assess urban development tax due to this.
