Taking a flight in her career, Commandant Swati Sharma from Rajasthan Home Guards is now headed towards studying at the University College London. Awarded with the Chevening Scholarship, the officer has secured a seat in the Risk, Disaster and Resilience postgraduate program at the institute. All set to study at one of the globe’s leading academic institutions, the proud veteran of the Indian Army has ushered significant acclaim to herself and the nation at large.
On her way to representing India on the global stage
Notably, Chevening Scholarship is presented by the British government with an objective to develop international leaders. Financed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the scholarship is given to distinguished candidates, which are chosen personally by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.
Speaking about her latest accomplishment, Swati said, “In the current scenario of increasing natural and manmade disasters, a disaster-resilient society is the need of the hour. Society needs more professionals who have expertise in optimum utilisation of human resources and efficient planning along with knowledge of the latest technology.”
Further, she expressed her gratitude to the state government and the Rajasthan Home Guards department for their assistance in her journey. With this rare opportunity, the officer would represent India on a global platform.
A bag full of remarkable achievements
Swati Sharma is a national-level Pistol Shooter, who entered the Rajasthan Home Guards Cadre in 2012. At that time, she was the first woman officer to join the regiment. The exemplary individual has been presented with a Director-General appreciation certificate by the Chief Minister in 2019 and the DG’s Disc from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.
Additionally, she has also qualified for the Civil Defence and Disaster Management Course at National Civil Defence College, Nagpur. Further, the officer has earned Diplomas from Army College of Materials Management and Symbiosis.
