Supply of cancer testing kits resumed at SMS Medical College, Jaipur

Over 90 medical tests are conducted free of cost at medical colleges across Rajasthan.

Catering to the increasing demand for cancer testing kits in Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur, the administration resumed cancer screening services here. Reportedly, the service was halted due to improper supply of testing kits in the recent past. The SMS Hospital received its first batch of the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) testing kits this Tuesday.

Immunohistochemistry (IHC), is a technique that is extensively used in hospitals for the diagnosis of cancer types, subtypes, tumours and more. It is a crucial testing method for monoclonal as well as polyclonal antibodies to determine the tissue distribution of an antigen of interest in health and disease.

As per the SMS Hospital administration, all patients who were advised IHC tests, will be provided with the kits. Since the test was recently made free of cost, the number of patients with cancer diagnoses also increased. This led to an excess burden on the pathology lab at the SMS Medical College, Jaipur.

In order to address the increasing number of patients, the authorities also stated that they would increase the supply of IHC in the next three to four days.

Under Mukhyamantri Nishulk Janch Yojana (MNJY), over 90 medical tests are conducted free of cost at medical colleges across the state. The move is aimed at offering health services at affordable rates for all kinds of illnesses.
