From humble beginnings to leading India on the international stage, Kanpur’s Diksha Kumari is at the helm of the country’s handball resurgence. As captain of the 25-member squad, she’s leading India’s historic campaign at the 20th Asian Women’s Handball Championship in New Delhi.
Diksha’s story is one of resilience and determination, rooted in a father’s unwavering support who stitches clothes to help her pursue her sporting dreams.
During the championship’s opening match on December 3, Diksha, a SAF games gold medallist, demonstrated extraordinary skill by blocking three crucial opposition penalties within the first 30 minutes. Her leadership propelled India to a commanding 16-10 lead against Hong Kong-China, symbolising the team’s potential to make a significant mark in international handball.
As India strives to qualify for the 2025 World Women’s Handball Championship, all eyes will be on the team, with Diksha leading the charge.
