Uttar Pradesh's new action plan drones on new possibilities!
Making a move towards digital progress, the Uttar Pradesh government has worked on an action plan to set up drone manufacturing units in the state. The administration has recognised the benefit of using unmanned micro aircraft in various sectors and has decided to employ them in the fields of disaster relief, agriculture, maintenance of law and order and so on. As per reports, the state will also be drafting its own manual for there are no clear or official rules of flying drones in UP.
IIT Kanpur to provide necessary help for drone diploma course
In an official statement, the Chief Minister of UP said that a concrete action plan should be mapped out to establish drone manufacturing units here. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has issued a policy in wake of this and the state government should also prepare drone rules, accordingly.
This manual should clearly define the provision of issuance of drone airworthiness certificates and maintenance certificates to avoid any irregularities from the safety point of view. Acceptance of existing drones, operator permits, student remote pilot license, remote pilot instructor authorisation to drone users must also be detailed.
The CM also added, "If necessary, the help of IIT Kanpur should be taken". Previously, drones were used during the COVID pandemic, especially for surveillance and spraying of disinfectants.
'Made in Uttar Pradesh' drones to bring businesses & employment
The move will pave a runway for commercial growth in UP, suggested reports. While the Chief Minister has proposed to set up drone manufacturing units given their importance in fields of disaster relief, agriculture, and law and order, they are easy to access and use which can make a major contribution to employment here.
It will promote economic development in remote and inaccessible areas, attracting businesses and companies to set up their centres in the state. At the state level, the Chief Minister asked the officials to reach out to other investors and marked the Defence Corridor as a useful area for this industry.
