Amid its tryst with the second wave of the COVID pandemic, India is facing a tough time, trying to meet escalating demands for medical-grade oxygen. In order to promote the regulated use of this medical necessity, IIT Kanpur has designed an oxygen audit application for tracking the availability and consumption of oxygen. As per reports, the top-notch technical institute has prepared this needed platform in a period of 24 hours.
App to build a strong database of oxygen resources and requirements
The app would collect and compile extensive information about the number of patients on oxygenated beds in different hospitals and their daily requirements. In addition to this, it would also have data regarding the daily utilization and the available stock, so that any unforeseen circumstances can be prevented.
Besides this, it would also record figures of expected demands in the upcoming days at the various hospitals. Through these data points, better management of scarce resources will be facilitated and it is anticipated that an optimal use would also aid in attaining equilibrium between the demand and supplies.
Platform to help in spotting priority areas with instant requirements
It is important that the resources reach the right spot at the right time during this troublesome situation. Depending on the current availability and expected demand in future, the app would help the authorities in directing supplies to the centres that need them at the earliest. Reportedly, the country has sufficient supplies of oxygen and the real problem lies in the disbursement network.
This project was initiated at the request of the Uttar Pradesh government. With the data accumulated through this app, the administration envisions prioritising hospitals with instant requirements and preventing roadblocks to seamless flow of oxygen to all critical patients who need it.
