IIT Kanpur kickstarts ‘Startup Gateway for Garbage Free Cities’ under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban

The program aims to support startups working towards waste management with reliable technology and social innovation.

Yet again walking the path of innovation, Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), at IIT Kanpur has partnered with Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for managing 'Startup Gateway for Garbage Free Cities’ programme under the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban’. This program aims to support startups working towards waste management with reliable technology and social innovation. 

Recently, a review meaning was organised between officials to analysis the progress of the 20 selected organisations.

A step towards efficient waste management

Highlighting India’s glaring waste management problem, this partnership will help startups solve waste management challenges, leading to improvements in waste management efficiency, increased social impact, and greater transparency in the waste-to-value chain.

According to officials at IIT-K, the program committee conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the progress made by each of the 20 startups selected for the 1st cohort of the program. As part of the initiative, these startups will receive ₹20 lakhs each to promote their business plan.

Apart from the above, they will also have access to mentorship, lab facilities and further be connected to Urban Local Bodies to facilitate the deployment of their solutions on the ground level. 

Ecowrap, EcoKaari, PadCare Labs, Celligo Natural Fibers and RCube Recycling are some of the startups selected for the project.
