Lucknow-based thinktank to create new AI-powered search engine, in association with IIT Kanpur

The search engine will enable advanced tools like predictive policing & crime mapping to smoothen police investigations

The Centre of Excellence at IIT Kanpur has incubated Lucknow-based thinktank Future Crime Research Foundation to create the first of its kind AI-sourced big data search engine for policing. A step towards digital administration and enforcement, this technology will deploy intelligence services to smoothen the investigation and policing process. The search engine will enable advanced tools like predictive policing, crime mapping and analysis among others to bring about holistic improvement, said officials.

In wake of the rise in crime and the lack of adequate police intelligence, the Lucknow-based Future Crime Research Foundation (FRCF) has decided to set up an independent AI-powered search engine for effective management. This new system will rely on predictive policing to tackle the issues of frauds and crimes now.

Nikhil Agarwal CEO at IIT Kanpur Artificial Intelligence and Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship (AIIDE) Centre of Excellence said that the new model will help the police department understand crime better. It's tools with decoding the criminal behaviour and activity, yielding quick solves.

Exectuing data analysis at the click of a button

For this, the FRCF is creating an integrated platform, which will hold data channels of all vital organizations and institutions. Shashank Shekhar, the Co-Founder of FCRF elaborated that the Foundation will collect all necessary information, from multiple sources and categorically let them on a big-data search engine. This model will be equipped to execute data analysis utilizing regression models, data mining, and artificial intelligence, as well as providing insights into the crime pattern that is unique to a given region.

This single platform will digitise the case, wherein officers will be able to find relevant investigation reports at the click of a button. The overall prototype aims to reduce the workload, burden and stress on the police force in India, with smart-tech solutions and effective management.

Shekhar further explained how such a technology-driven solution is highly desirable in the present day scenario. The AI platform will help the police obtain knowledge and factors and create a pro-active system of policing. Instead of reaching the crime scene later, the police force will be able to avert major mishaps and frauds, reducing the overall crime rate.

With FRCF expertise, in association with IIT Kanpur, all eyes are on the new platform now to create a prototype that promotes better-policing methods. Notably, the FCRF had earlier created India's first search engine for nodal officers and all India police station numbers. The new venture is, thus, highly awaited.
