IIT Kanpur's record-breaking 107 Intellectual Property Rights paved the way for innovation in 2022

The patents covered innovations in a variety of fields, from Nanotechnology to Medical Technology.

IIT Kanpur has submitted the most IPRs (107) in its history for the second year in a row. The ideas covered by the patents ranged from Nanotechnology to Medical Technology, which includes a number of healthcare solutions like a medication delivery system based on medicinal plants commonly used in conventional medicine for the repair of broken and ill bones.

One US patent application was included among the 107 IPRs that were filed, along with 80 patents, 23 design registrations, 2 copyright applications, and 1 trademark application.

There's more to it...

An improved transgene for ocular gene therapy, disease-modifying medication combinations for osteoarthritis treatment, and an electrochemical system for glucose testing were among the other patents that were filed this year. The number of IPRs awarded by the institute over the year has significantly increased.

A few examples of the 95 such granted patents are a tactile haptic smartwatch for the blind and visually impaired, dry and compact water purification vessels, E. coli water testing kits, solar energy-based Root Zone Heating systems, and Vermi-Bed methods for plants in high altitude areas. These inventions are all related to monitoring water quality.

After receiving the STEM Impact Awards 2022 for significant technology transfer with a socio-economic impact, IIT Kanpur's most recent technology transfer, the "Bhu-Parikshak" soil testing tool, gained notoriety.
