India COVID cases shot up by over 90,000 new cases in the last 24 hours
COVID-19 cases in India saw yet another spike with around 90,928 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours. As per an update of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, this new tally stands at a 56% high over the 58,097 cases logged on Wednesday. India's aggregate COVID count has soared up to the 3,51,09,286 mark, the health ministry bulletin read.
Biggest single-day Omicron surge recorded
Omicron tallies in India have also shown the up-tick trend, recording the biggest single-day rise of 495 cases on Wednesday. The total infection tally now stands as 2,630 cases, including the highest share of 797 infections in Maharashtra, followed by 465 cases in Delhi. Besides, Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka and Gujarat have confirmed over 200 Omicorn infections as yet.
Going by official records, India's count of active cases also witnessed an enormous jump, nearing the 3-lakh mark. Around 2,85,401 patients are presently receiving treatment for the virus. This figure notably accounts for 0.81 per cent of the overall cumulative caseload of the country.
On the other hand, around 19,000 people recovered from coronavirus, exhibiting up to 97.81% recuperative rate in India. A total of 3,43,41,009 COVID-19 patients have successfully defeated the infection, since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

The Union on January 3 permitted the use of COVID vaccination for all those aged 15 years and above, across the country. This widened scope of immunity has picked up pace, inoculating over 1 crore teenagers since then. As many as 91,25,099 doses were administered to eligible beneficiaries in the last 24 hours, including about 40,80,263 teenagers. India's total vaccination record presently stands at over 148 crore jabs.
