Railways will soon kick-start alternative system in Kanpur to provide immediate relief at minor train accident sites.
The Railways have decided to launch a new system of an emergency kitchen at the Kanpur Central Railway Station to provide immediate relief to the victims, rescue team and railway employees at the site of minor train accidents. Authorities are currently awaiting permissions from the Prayagraj Mandal for the same and implementary action will be taken with promptness post the approval nod.
Immediate relief with Emergency Kitchen
The new system of emergency kitchen is being established as an alternative to the food services provided by the IRCTC- which is a subsidy of the Indian Railways. Unlike IRCTC, which provides food for only rescue teams and railway employees in case of accidents, the emergency kitchen will provide services to victim passengers, besides relief teams, railway employees, RPF, GRP engaged in minor accidents. This decision was cemented after recognising the need to provide immediate assistance to the travellers, in case of derailments, which happen frequently.
Keeping the wide demographic in mind which includes elderlies, children and women, the emergency kitchen will be stocked with chips, biscuits and snacks, while immediate and staple needs of water and milk will also be met. According to the railway officials, the emergency kitchen will be able to provide independently for small accidents and minor inconveniences. However, additional assistance and support will be required on the occurrence of any major event.
The Railways have proposed the idea in the Prayagraj Mandal and are currently awaiting permissions for the same. Officials have stated that constructive implementation will start as soon as permission is granted.
Given the fast approaching foggy weather, which usually gives rise to several minor accidents, this new alternative food service is an essential proactive measure. With the establishments of the emergency kitchen, the Railways is initiating to develop a decentralised rapid response team, for immediate assistance of the passengers at accident sites. However, at the same time, the authorities need to be cautious of the food inventory and will have to make sure only healthy, packaged food is provided to the people.
