Amid the rising Omicron scare, 5 people test COVID positive in Kanpur on Wednesday

Samples of all those who've tested COVID positive in Kanpur yesterday, have been sent for genome sequencing to detect the Omicron variant

Marking a rise in the COVID tally of the city, 5 fresh cases of coronavirus have been reported in Kanpur on Wednesday. With the additions recorded yesterday, the active caseload in Kanpur has reached a total of 7 cases. However, no recovery or fatality has been marked in the last 24 hours in the city. Notably, amid the rising Omicron scare, the night curfew from 11 PM to 5 AM has been reinforced across Uttar Pradesh starting tomorrow.

Out of the cases detected yesterday, a couple with a travel history has tested positive for coronavirus as well. The duo had recently returned from Kenya which is said to be an Omicron hotspot. Samples of all those who've tested COVID positive have been sent for genome sequencing to King George Medical University in Lucknow to detect the Omicron variant.

According to the press release by the administration, with 5 new cases of COVID detected in Kanpur yesterday, the cumulative count of coronavirus infected patients in the city has reached a total of 82,950. While 11,395 people in Kanpur have recovered from this viral disease yet, 1,905 fatalities have been marked in the city, as of now.

The general public has been advised to follow COVID appropriate behaviour, especially in the upcoming festive season. Along with this, the authorities are directed to ensure strict adherence to all the pandemic-mandated protocols and conduct proper sanitization work throughout the city as well.
