Amidst the preparations of the upcoming Holi festival, Kanpur’s District Magistrate issued new directives to prepare the city ahead of festive celebrations. In an administrative meeting on Saturday, DM Neha Sharma reviewed the status of various Holi Committees in the Collectorate and issued guidelines for civic repair work ahead for the Ganga Mela gathering on March 23. The DM has directed the Kanpur Municipal Corporation officials to make preparations for clay beds at places where ‘Holika’ would be burnt in order to protect roads. She urged all Holi pandal and organizers of ‘Holika Dahan’ to reach out to the KMC staff for pouring clay on roads. Along with this, the civic management will also pay attention to the problems of waterlogging and cleanliness during the festive celebrations in the city.
While Holi celebrations will stretch from March 18 to 19, the Ganga Mela festivities will be held on March 23. For both the events, the DM has asked Jal Nigam authorities to ensure a high-speed water supply, 3 times a day.
Besides, all-electric wires in Kanpur will be repaired to avert mishaps and power generators will be installed as a backup, in case of a power failure. Other arrangements for ambulances will also be present throughout. The Health Department will keep all hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and ambulances on active mode.
Diversional plan to avoid traffic jams
A diversion plan will be prepared to ease the heavy traffic expected at Sarsaiya Ghat. A grand Holi Milan ceremony will be organised here which will witness attendees from all over the city, Special traffic arrangements, road lighting and other management plans will be activated to avoid traffic snarls. Reportedly, the DM has asked all the SDMs to organize meetings with police stations, under their jurisdiction and finalise these arrangements in advance.
