Adding yet another feather to its cap, Kanpur Metro has been awarded a Green Metro Rail System certificate from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Confederation of Indian Industries(CII) on Thursday. All nine metro stations on the Priority Corridor from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel in Kanpur have received a platinum certificate from IGBC. Notably, before Kanpur, all 21 stations of Lucknow Metro have also been certified with a platinum rating.

Ahead of its inauguration, scheduled on December 28 by the Prime Minister of India, Kanpur metro has achieved yet another milestone. The Platinum rating was awarded after a survey taken up by IGBC along with CII in December. In an event at the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation office in Lucknow recently, certificates and plaques were handed over to Kumar Keshav, Managing Director of UPMRC by Alok Shukla, CII State Head and Amit Srivastava, co-chairman of IGBC, UP State Chapter.
UPMRC has also planted over 10,000 plants and saplings along the priority corridor in Kanpur and translocated more than 100 trees as well. Apart from this, UPMRC has also taken various steps to ensure the station remains energy efficient. Additionally, every metro station has been equipped with proper waste management systems and rainwater harvesting setups.
