The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (UPMRC) has made arrangements to bring in the rakes of Kanpur Metro, from the Savli plant in Gujarat. As per reports, the metro coaches will be loaded on road trailers and flagged off for Kanpur on September 5. The journey is expected to last 10-12 days, slating the arrival of carriages in the city around September 15. The rakes will be assembled here into polytechnic coaches, fit for final use.
Kanpur Metro rakes to arrive sooner than expected!
Earlier, the UPMRCL had scheduled the arrival of Gujarat-made indigenous metro rakes at Kanpur by the end of September. Plans have now, however, sped fast to ensure a transport arrangement in the first week of the month itself. All transport-related formalities, including the assessment of the designated route, have also been conducted.
As of now, three metro coaches are being sent across via a road channel from Gujarat to Kanpur. Each of these rakes is 30-meter long, forming about an 89-meter-long trail, reportedly. It has been decided that the coaches will be loaded in different trailers to ensure efficient transport.
The UP Metro Rail Corporation has also planned to deploy a team of officials to lead the wagon of coaches. This task force will be equipped with wireless transmitters to ensure communication between the different trailers, during transit.
Once assembled into polytechnic units, the 3 Kanpur Metro coaches will have the potential to ferry 970 passengers in a signal run. Reportedly, the middle rake has the potential to hold up 340 commuters while the other two coaches can load up to 315 passengers, each.

It is noteworthy that the rakes of Kanpur Metro are more energy-efficient as compared to the ones plying in Lucknow. While both metro networks use a regenerative braking system to conserve energy, Kanpur Metro is pegged to save up to 45% of energy, instead of the 38% of the Lucknow Metro.
