Kanpur Metro: Roof lab casting begins at underground Naveen Market Metro Station

Work on Corridor-I of the Kanpur Metro Project marked a milestone development on Wednesday with the beginning of 'Roof Slab Casting' at the Naveen Market Metro Station. The engineering staff started the work of roof-slope construction here, after completely wrapping up the installation of the D-Wall work here.

As per the project timeline, the slab casting work of Bada Chauraha station will also be started soon to pace up the structural work of the underground section of the metro line. This corridor, stretching from Nayaganj to Chunniganj via Bada Chauraha and Naveen Market, is expected to be complete by 2024.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Corporation is charting a rapid project growth on Corridor-I of Kanpur Metro, especially at Naveen Market. The UPMRC started the construction of this metro stop on October 11, 2021 and, in less than 6 months since then, is now focussing to set up the roof slab here.

An exponential growth, of similar grade, has been marked at the adjacent Bada Chauraha station as well. The D-Wall work is completed here too and the roof-slab casting is set to begin in the coming weeks.

Work on the underground section-I of the Kanpur Metro is being progressed in a top-down format. This means that the construction of the top level is being done first and the downward levels will be built accordingly.

To put it simply, the construction of the concourse level and then the platform level will begin only after the roof slab is ready and the road barricades are reduced. The plan will permit the vehicles to move smoothly on the road while the construction of the lower grounds continues simultaneously.

Officials informed that this system of work progression will least affect the traffic - a problem that was identified during the construction of the already operational Priority Corridor here. It may be noted here that once Corriod-I is complete, it will work in extension of the elevated Priority Corridor. The entire route has been planned to elongate as a 23 km long line from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. The goal is to complete the work here within deadlines, the UPMRC MD informed.
