Alongside the swift advancements on the Line 1 (Orange Line) corridor of the Kanpur Metro project, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has recently initiated the tendering process for the Line 2 corridor. This upcoming corridor is set to feature an elevated track connecting Chandra Shekhar Azad University (CSAU) to Barra-8, encompassing the construction of five stations.

This new corridor will have 5 stations, namely CSAU, Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Shastri Chauk, Barra-7 and Barra-8. The construction timeline is set for completion within 30 months, with a deadline set for June 2026.

Metro to provide connectivity to Kanpur Station by Nov 2024

In addition, UPMRC has set a target to complete the metro route construction up to Kanpur Central Station on Line 1 (Orange Line) by April 2024. The current operational stretch on this line, spanning from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel (8.7 km), will be extended to include Kanpur Central station, incorporating four additional stops at Chunni Ganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha and Nayanganj.

Commencing from November 2024, residents of Kanpur will be able to traverse this route following the successful completion of trial runs. Once fully functional, both metro corridors will connect to high-density as well as the industrial areas of Kanpur and reduce vehicular traffic and pollution.
