Kanpur's new ₹96 cr Convention Centre nears completion; set to open in June
Kanpur is gearing up to inaugurate its grand state-of-the-art convention centre in the first week of June, marking a major milestone in the city's infrastructure development. Mayor Pramila Pandey conducted a surprise inspection on Thursday, directing officials to ensure timely completion of this "dream project."
The mayor stated that the facility embodies the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, and is set to elevate the city’s profile both nationally and internationally.
Set to redefine city’s event landscape
Built at a cost of ₹96.1 crore, the state-of-the-art centre will feature two massive exhibition halls (16,000 and 12,000 sq ft), a 300-seat conference hall, three 100-seater meeting rooms, six guest rooms, two luxury suites, an 8,000 sq. ft food court, and parking for 68 vehicles. Inspired by a world-class convention facility she saw in Gujarat four years ago, Mayor Pandey envisioned the project to meet the needs of Kanpur’s thriving industrial and cultural communities.
Once functional, the convention centre will be managed by the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, with its long-term operations guided by a strategic manual being developed by IIM Indore. It is poised to become a key venue for Kanpur’s social gatherings, cultural showcases, and business events, serving as a dynamic hub for the city’s diverse communities.
