Kanpur to host MPL 58th of National chess championship from February 25

The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has announced a new schedule for the 58th Edition of the MPL National chess championship that is to be held at the Ganges Club in Kanpur. AICF had earlier scheduled the tournament to kick-start from February 9, however, a revised plan was in order to avert a clash with the ongoing Assembly elections in the state. The 2022 league edition will now be held from February 25 to March 3.

A flagship event of the AICF, the National chess championship in Kanpur has now been reduced to be a one-week affair. In line with this time crunch, the number of rounds have also been cut down, from 13 to only 11 and holding two round on four days. Despite a cut down in the duration of the program, the prize money has been hiked. Participants stand a chance to win ₹30 lakh prize money at this championship in Kanpur.

Revised dates for International Opens

Besides, the AICF has also revised the dates for the upcoming International Opens, to be held in Guwahati, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Odisha and Vishakhapatnam this year. Check the new schedule here:

Besides this, the dates for the Women’s National Championship have also been fixed. The league will be held in Bhubhaneshwar, from February 25 to March 2. The dates for National sub-juniors in Delhi, from March 4 to 8, National Junior in Gurugram from March 9 to 13, National team championship in Nashik from April 9 to16, and National U-18 Championship in Coimbatore from April 18 to 25 have also been officially announced.
