Established by the Wildlife Institute of India, this virtual centre holds information about birds, turtles, dolphins and fishes living along the banks or in the Ganges.
This ‘virtual centre’ knows it all!
The premises of the Kanpur Zoo in Uttar Pradesh now resonate with the sound of birds, with the induction of a virtual centre. Turning tables, now nature falls into the laps of people, at the touch of a single button. Besides this, the virtual centre is a storehouse of information about river bed and water creatures that live along the banks of River Ganga. The information about the birds is given in a room sub-divided into three rooms. There is a box on which the names of the birds are written and in which the pre-recorded chirping of the birds can be heard.
Hearing aid to boost learning in children
Kanpur Zoo Assistant Director informed that children aged between 5 and 16 years, visiting the Kanpur Zoo, can now learn about the birds around them or the birds about whom they have read, only in books. In addition to this information, young children can also hear the sound of several dozen birds by pressing just a single button. Besides this, the history of Kanpur and the importance of the Ganga is also highlighted here.
Ever since the lockdown has been lifted, hundreds of children have come to this centre already. To make the entire trip more informative and easy, the department is also planning on roping-in guides, who’ll inform the kids about these birds.
