Looking forward to widening its avenues, Prasar Bharti will implement this vision across the world if the ongoing trial-run becomes a success
Prasar Bharati partners up with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) to conduct a pilot project on the feasibility of Direct-to-Mobile broadcasting. Looking forward to widening its avenues, India's public broadcaster will implement this vision of digitisation, if the ongoing trial-run becomes a success. With this, people might be able to access the broadcast content right through their smartphones in future, irrespective of their location.
Plans to deliver broadcast content on a unicast mode underway
In line with the era of Information and Technology, the public broadcaster has undergone various changes, including digitisation. Talking about the same, the CEO of Prasar Bharti said, "Practically every Doordarshan channel and All India Radio station now has a digital presence spanning multiple platforms, be it YouTube for live-streaming or on social media to engage with the audience". Notably, the one-of-a-kind Prasar Bharti app, which has more than 200 ratio streams at present is available for all, irrespective of their location.
Speaking at the 10th Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Big Picture Summit on Wednesday, Prasar Bharti's CEO, Shashi Shekhar Vempati said, "In the event of a high-viewership event such as the IPL, there is no reason why millions of users need to receive that content on a unicast mode through the Internet. If this works, all of that content can be delivered directly on broadcast frequencies to the people on their smartphones or smart TVs".
The Big Picture Summit
While the CII organises the Big Picture Summit to discuss opportunities and address challenges every year. The main motive behind this summit is to highlight the growing focus on local opportunities for a global audience. Apart from this it also includes discussion on global trends, opportunities, macroeconomic turbulences. These discussions ultimately lead to a softening of revenues and enhancing the understanding domestic consumer preferences. Notably, the theme of this year's event is 'Scaling New Heights of Content, Creativity and Innovation'.
