Dr. Bushra Ateeq, Associate Professor of the “Biological Sciences and Bio-Engineering Department” of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is acquitted with the credit of doing an exceptional and detailed study on the subject of cancer. Her golden contribution has been duly acknowledged with the inclusion of her name in the list of winners of the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award for Science and Technology 2020 in the Medical Science field.

The Director of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Abhay Karandikar tweeted, sharing the news and and congratulating Dr Bushra for her selection to the winners’ list of the Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award to the foreground . Though, it is certain that the Professor would be receiving the award in the 2020 edition of the award, the date of felicitation has not been finalised yet.
Professor Bushra Ateeq has been working with the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur since 2013. During this tenure, her team has detected problems in genes and cells due to cancer. Also, they have done research on prostate cancer in men and found out its cause. The team has further investigated the subject of prostate cancer in men and have succeeded in identifying its cause, which paves way for treatment advancements. For this, she also bagged the Chintamani Nagesh Ramchandra Rao (CNR Rao) Faculty Award in 2018.
The Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award is a prestigious honour in the country that acknowledges and credits extraordinary indigenous research and contribution in the field of biological and chemical, chemical, earth, environmental, oceanic and planetary, engineering, mathematical, medical and physical sciences. It is presented in the honour of Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, the founder-director of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research or CSIR, the award is presented every year, accounting Indian talents, promoting domestic research in the foray of science and technology across the country.
