Launched in October 2020 in Uttar Pradesh, Mission Shakti aims to progress and uplift the societal-status of women.
Uttar Pradesh launched an active campaign under the wing of Mission Shakti to channelise women empowerment in the state. Launched in October 2020, the Department of Women and Child Development in UP has stated that programmes under this initiative have touched the lives of as many as 5 crore citizens, creating awareness about the women's issues. Platforms like 'Shakti Samvad' and 'Haq ki Baat' are also being used to redress the grievances of both rural and urban women.
UP's effective approach to empower women upliftment
Uttar Pradesh government has custom-stitched a programme to uplift the position of women in the rural and urban landscapes, providing provisions of security, opportunity and recognition. To further acknowledge the contribution of women and girls in different fields, events such as Nayika Mega Event, Gender Champion are being held on a regular basis, as well.
The state government has helped 27.95 lakh women, through the Nirashrit Mahila Pension Scheme while 5.80 lakh girls have received the benefits of Kanya Sumangala Yojana. About 51,25,579 girls have got the direct benefit of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. Meanwhile, about 4,937 victims of violence have been supported through the Rani Lakshmi Bai Mahila Evam Samman Kosh Yojana.
Women Development in Uttar Pradesh
The Director, Women Welfare Department stated that they are dedicated to making women and girls self-reliant by means of government welfare schemes. Committed to providing benefit to women of the state, including those who belong to the poorest section of the society, the department looks at the holistic growth and development of women and girls. In addition to this, both government and non-governmental organisations are making rural women aware about the new job opportunities.
In sessions and awareness programmes under such initiatives and development programmes, they are being trained to work in small and cottage industries. Further, training is also being provided organic farming, mask making, dress stitching and designing contemporary jewellery.
