Commuters can expect slow traffic when travelling in the area
As phase two of Kanpur Metro's construction gets underway, work on the proposed underground Chunni Ganj station will begin soon. To facilitate this process, road diversions were put in place on a trial basis on Tuesday. This was done by setting up barriers and roadblocks at various junctions. Traffic Police and Metro Marshalls were stationed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Despite these arrangements, travellers experienced slow traffic in the area.
Check current diversions below
Vehicles going from Eidgah to Lal Imli via Chunni Ganj Chauraha are being made to turn left towards Colonelganj Thana. They are being released near Lal Imli Chauraha via Gwaltoli. To return, they can turn right from the Lal Imli Chauraha and take the opposite lane to reach Chunni Ganj.
Traffic coming from the petrol pump opposite BNCD College is also being diverted to a street opposing the same lane and being sent to Lakadmandi. This has led to congestion. The way from Company Bagh to Chunni Ganj has been blocked, causing vehicles to turn around and take VIP road instead. Finally, a single lane is being used for traffic both coming from and going to Bajariya Dhal from Chunni Ganj.
Routes will be finalised by next week
The trials will go on for the next few days. The routes will be modified based on incoming suggestions from Wednesday morning onwards. Finally, the diversions will be made permanent from Monday, January 17. If construction goes as per schedule, the diversions will remain in place for up to two years.
