4.02 lakh doses of the new ZyCoV-D vaccine have been allotted to Kanpur
Kanpur residents currently have the option to get the Covishield, Covaxin or Sputnik vaccines administered from various public and private sources, to build immunity against Covid-19. But starting from the new year, they will also be able to get the new ZyCoV-D vaccine administered, through a 'painless' procedure, i.e, without injection. Kanpur will be one of the 14 districts in UP where this vaccine will be available.
What is ZyCoV-D?
Manufactured by the company Zydus Cadila, ZyCoV-D is the newest vaccine to be approved for administration on 12+ citizens. Based on DNA-plasmid technology, it takes 3 doses to fully vaccinate a person against Covid-19 through this vaccine. The second-dose is applied on the 28th day, while the third dose is applied on the 56th day after the first dose. It is administered through the PharmaJet technique, a painless procedure that enables needle-free injection of the vaccine into the body.
So far 4.02 lakh doses and 40 PharmaJets have been allotted to the district, which will benefit 1.34 lakh people. Medical staff will first be trained on the process of administration of the vaccine using PharmaJets by WHO trainers, before beginning public vaccination. The schedule for this training is now being prepared.
