Startup backed by IIT Kanpur develops new eco-friendly thermocol that can double up as fertilizer

Developed by Kinoko Biotech, this thermocol can be decomposed within 60 days, as compared to regular thermocol that takes up to 1000 years.

Regular thermocol, just like plastic, proves to be immensely harmful for the environment over the years. But the new eco-friendly thermocol developed by a startup backed by IIT Kanpur can be decomposed within a period of two months and can also work as fertilizer once it submerges with soil.

Read on to know more about this new sustainable invention.

Made from agricultural waste, stubble, and mushroom roots

According to the founder of Kinoko Biotech, the company that has developed the thermocol, once the idea of making this organic thermocol came up, he and his team conducted a thorough research with the help of IIT Kanpur to make it a reality.

Furthermore, stubble is also one of the ingredients used to make this thermocol. Farmers usually have to throw away their stubble as it is of no use in the market. But now, they will be able to simply sell it for production of this thermocol and earn some money from it.

As for the price, this organic thermocol will be available at ₹30 per 100 grams in the market. But the company plans to further decrease the price to make it cheaper than regular thermocol found in the market.
