Speeding up the work to complete the Kanpur Metro Project, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation officials have commenced the process of load testing for the elevated track on the priority corridor. As per the information given by authorities, load testing will be conducted at 2 spots on the entire stretch. While the ‘Load Test’ has begun on I-Girders between IIT-K and Kalyanpur, U-Girders and Steel Box Girders at Rawatpur will also be tested soon.
Tolerance of the track to be tested with a load, 1.25 times heavier than the metro train

Reportedly, the strength and tolerance of the track will be tested with a load, almost 1.25 times more than the weight of the metro train. This helps in testing the track for bearing the load of a train that is full of passengers.
Under the current plans, more than 245 tonnes of load will be placed on the track and the weights shall be added in 5 phases. As per reports, sacks filled with sand are already being leveled on the Kalyanpur station and the readings of load-carrying capacity will be taken thereafter, to evaluate the endurance of the track.
1st trials to be held in November

It has been stated that the first metro set will arrive in Kanpur by the end of September. Further, the plans entail that the trial run will be conducted on this priority corridor in the month of November. In view of this, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to assure that the tracks are ready as soon as possible. Thereby the officials have accelerated the execution of the project with load testing interventions for I-Girder, U-Girder and Steel Box.
Notably, the metro management has also shouldered the responsibility of mending roads beneath its tracks and stations for a smooth run of the traffic. Given the fact that the first phase would witness the introduction of metro trains between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel, the roads across this stretch expect a revamp soon.
